Importance of Omega 3 Oils During Pregnancy

It is widely known that Omega-3 fatty acids are important for a healthy brain function along with other huge benefits it delivers to our bodies. Needless to say, it’s even more important for a pregnant woman as she’s growing a baby inside of her.

Out of many edible fatty acids, only Omega-3 cannot be synthesised by our body, which means the fetus must receive this nutrient from their mother (through the placenta).

That’s why pregnant women are suggested to supplement their diet with Omega-3 fatty acids. It hugely helps during fetal development, as it has a positive effect during gestation and on birth weight.

Omega-3 isn’t easy to get enough of from our diet. Pregnant women have restricted diets due to some seafood and shell food restrictions, which makes it even harder to get enough of this nutrient. And, of course, some don’t eat that much fish.

It is estimated that an adequate level of omega-3 fatty acids for a pregnant woman would be a good amount of vegetable oils, two smaller fish dishes per week and fish oil supplements (or algae-based docosahexaenoic acid).

There are high levels of DHA present in Omega-3s, and Childlife Essentials has a specifically designed DHA product for pregnant women. The taste is Lemon (with no fishy smell), making it very easy for pregnant women (with possible digestion troubles) to take it.

There are so many benefits to supplementing with DHA during your pregnancy, including its positive effects on the baby's brain and eye development and during infancy as well as healthy pregnancy length and birth weight.
