Tips For Busy Mums On Staying Sane During the Christmas Rush

Christmas holidays are exciting for all but can be very stressful for mums, who seem to be the busiest out of the whole family during this hectic time. Family catch-ups and traditions, school functions and gifts, and so on!

If you’re a busy mum who feels like the previous Christmas season didn’t work for your stress level, we put together a list of things you can do this year to avoid unnecessary pressure and enjoy the holidays.

Make a Plan and Write It Down

Go the old-fashioned way and create your December calendar on paper. Put down any events, parties and gatherings happening and any tasks you need to accomplish, like how many gifts you need to get and for who. Then start ticking things off the list that you can now. Don’t pressure yourself - start with little things and work your way up.

Enjoy the Moment

Sometimes we forget to stop and smell the flowers. If you go to a Christmas show your child is participating in, don’t focus on taking photos all night and worry about getting enough of them on the night. Take one and forget your phone. Then - enjoy the show!

Know When to Say No

Things can get pretty busy, and if you say “yes” to everything, you will probably stretch yourself and then regret it. If someone is asking you to bake treats for a school event or help to decorate the room all day. Don’t feel bad bringing store-bought goodies and letting them know you could only help in the morning.

Ask for Help

Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Mums often take everything on themselves, but the truth is people around you will be more than happy to help if they are asked. If you feel overwhelmed with tasks while you’re organising a family gathering, then ask everyone to chip in and help out. Many hands make light work!

Avoid Malls and Shop Online

Online shopping has become very popular due to the pandemic, and it is now a way to shop for many households. So make a decision to shop online for anything you need this Christmas and avoid the crazy mall rush. With retailers offering quick delivery, you can grab last-minute things you forgot and get them right on time.

Deep Breathing

We all know that deep breathing helps during stressful times, but we forget to do so. This season, make sure you take a few deep breaths if you feel overwhelmed and make it a habit. So whenever you feel stressed, take a deep breath and enjoy the benefits of calming yourself down that way.

Treat Yourself

Do something selfish this season. Get a massage, facial or nails done. Enjoy a moment of stillness and forget about the rush. Mums rarely do it, so why not give yourself a Christmas gift and enjoy something away from the family?
